CAMP STRUCTURE

The camp will take place from January 25th to January 30th, 2026, in Cape Town.

It is a 6-day mobile coaching camp meaning we will sail several spots during the camp. This allows Dieter and Tony to select the best spot based on the forecast to maximize your improvement.

This adaptable scheduling has been highly praised by previous participants for perfectly accommodating weather conditions. You will benefit from Dieter's local knowledge, gained from "3 winters in Cape Town, more than 18 different spots sailed and good knowledge of the local thermic", ensuring ideal conditions for learning.

The schedule balances debriefs, theory, and extensive water action.

Participants must be ready to drive to different spots during the camp as conditions dictate. This means participants need to bring their own windsurfing gear and ensure they have a car in which the gear fits.

Day 1: Introduction & Group Sailing

  • Everyone meets to get an introduction of the spot, review the forecast, and determine the week's goals.
  • A short theory lesson is followed by a group sailing session to assess everyone's level and adjust goals.
  • Initial pointers and focus points for the next day will be given.
  • In case of no wind, theory sessions with the simulator will be conducted on the beach to prepare for windy days.

The Coaching Days (typically 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th day based on forecast)

  • Generally, on windy days, there will be a maximum of two water sessions per day, each lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on conditions and participant energy levels. It is not mandatory to attend all sessions.
  • During at least one session, Dieter or Tony will be filming from the beach(likely the first session) and providing direct feedback during quick debriefings.
  • During the second session, Dieter may join on the water or continue filming with short breaks for additional feedback.
  • In the evening, all video footage will be sorted and uploaded to a Dropbox for participants to take home.
  • The following morning, all key clips will be reviewed, and new goals set for the day.
  • In case of no wind, the focus will shift to more theory and land simulation, as there is always much to learn.
  • In lighter winds (non-planning winds), participants will still hit the water for light wind exercises.

ACCOMMODATION

  • Base Point for the camp will be one of the following 3 spots: Sunset, Big Bay, or Melkbos.
  • Accommodation will be booked separately. If many participants have similar travel dates, shared housing may be an option, but this would need to be booked and paid for at least 3 months ahead (e.g., October 15th and November 7th for February/March camps).
  • Where to Search: The easiest way to find accommodation is on Airbnb or booking.com.
  • It is best to check the location of the place well beforehand. Generally, the further away from the city, the safer it gets. Most windsurf spots are safe, but there is a higher number of crime closer to the city center. Many complex buildings, especially in Sunset and Big Bay, have their own private security, which is well advised when you are closer to the city. In Melkbos, private security is less easily found but also less needed, as it is roughly 45 minutes away from Cape Town center and much safer as a result.

CAR RENTAL & TRAVEL

  • Best Way to Fly: The best option is to fly to Cape Town International Airport. Many different airlines fly there, but if you are planning to take more than one boardbag, Turkish Airlines or Condor generally have the best deals. From the Netherlands, there are straight overnight flights with KLM, with the option to buy a second 23kg bag for 100 euro per direction, meaning you can take 46kg of gear.
  • Car Rental: There are many different car rentals available in Cape Town. The best approach is to choose one with pickup and drop-off at the airport, which is by far the easiest way to arrange your car rental, especially since you will be carrying board bags with you (the airport is roughly 30-40 minutes away from the windsurfing spots).
  • You can choose between a normal car or what they call in Cape Town a Bakkie, which is a pickup truck with a closed back that has space for 2 persons in the front but, most importantly, lots of space for gear. Kennings is one of the most known options, and Thrifty cars also offer great pricing with airport pickup and drop-off options.
