WHY CAPE TOWN & WHAT TO EXPECT

Cape towns is known for its SE trade winds providing wind on a nearly daily basis picking up from of around noon till dark. This combined with the long coast line full of different spots give endless options.

With now 2 winters in Cape Town, more than 15 different spots sailed and good knowledge of the local thermic it's time to take you along for the ride.

During the camp I want to share this local experience & wave sailing knowledge with you!

In the camp the main goal will be to bring everyones wave sailing to the next level but also to introduce you to new spots & give you a better idea of where to go on which forecast for potential future trips to Cape Town.

Depending on the conditions we will be moving spots around Cape Town meaning having a vehicle will be mandatory on this camp. Easiest is a pick up that you can share with 2 to share costs & the drive.

ACCOMODATION:

BASE POINT WILL BE ONE OF THE FOLLIWING 3 SPOTS- Sunset/BigBay/Melkbos .

Accomodation will be booked separately a.t.m. if we see many participants with similar travel dates we can look into a shared housing, this would need to be booked & paid at least 4 months ahead. 13th of September.

WHERE TO SEARCH:

Easiest way to find accomodation is on AIRBNB or booking.com .

Best is to check the location of the place well before hand. The further away from the city in general the more safe it gets (in general most windsurfspots are safe but there is a higher number of crime closer to the city center).

There are many complex buildings which have there own private security which is well advised when you are closer to the city. (SUNSETS & Big Bay )

In Melkbos this can’t be found that easily but also is less needed since its roughly 45 min away from Cape Town center.

BEST WAY TO FLY:

Best is to fly to Cape Town international airport, there are many different airlines flying there but if you are planning to take more than 1 Boardbag than Turkish Airlines or Condor in general have the best deals.

From the Netherlands there are straight flights with KLM overnight , with the option to buy a second 23kg bag for 100 euro/each direction meaning you can take 46kg of gear.

CAR RENTAL:

There are many different car rentals available in Cape Town.

The best is to choose one with pickup and drop off at the airport which is by far the easiest way to arrange your car rental especially since you are carrying board bags with you. (The airport is roughly 30-40 min away from the windsurfing spots)

You can choose between a normal car or what they call in Cape Town a Bakkie, which is a pick up truck with a closed back which has space for 2 persons in the front but most importantly lots of space for gear making it.

Kennings is one of the most known options thanks to Ben Profit but further you also have following company’s.

Thifty cars also has great pricing with the option of pick up & drop of at the airport.

These are just a few examples since many options are available.
